Rootsy Performer Jarle’s Website is Back Online!

Norwegian singer/songwriter Jarle Skavhellen is a rootsy performer who combines traditional acoustic folk sounds with his own yearning melodies and atmospheric production. Raised in Bergen, Norway in a musical family, Skavhellen first began playing guitar around age 11, studying with lauded Norwegian guitarist Mads Eriksen. Sifting through his father’s extensive vinyl record collection, he gravitated toward the classic folk and country of artists like Chet Atkins and Dave Van Ronk. Similarly, with his uncle’s many guitars at his disposal, Skavhellen quickly developed into an adroit player. During his teens he played in various ensembles, including rock and cover bands, before focusing on his own original folk compositions. He garnered attention with the release of his evocative single “The Ghost in Your Smile” in 2016. A year later he returned with another single, “Matylda.”
